Anybody who has ever transported water in a pail or any other type of container, whether it has been by car, truck or by foot, knows how difficult it is to keep that water from spilling out of the vessel. In the same manner, any undue earth movement can set the mass of water in ponds, lakes, seas or oceans into an agitated state and create waves large and small.

In this course, we will review the origin, development, build-up and assessment of the destructive power of seismic sea waves. We will also learn how to measure and convert the resulting hydro-dynamic pressures into design loads for the practical application on the sizing of structural parts and components of marine protective barriers.
